Keep Your Insects Forever with Polyester Casting Resin

Polyester-Casting-ResinPolyester casting resin is a useful product on the market and it can help you preserve some of your most favorite things. If you have an insect or two that you want to preserve as a keepsake for your mantle or to give as a gift, you will find that polyester casting resin helps you accomplish just that.

If you have never worked with resin before, you probably need some help understanding how the process works. While it is simple, it is important that you pay attention to the steps of the process and work only in a well ventilated area.

1. First and foremost, you need to gather all of the following supplies: •

  • Stirring stick
  • Insects
  • Polyester casting resin
  • Catalyst
  • Ice cube tray
  • Mixing cup or bowl

2. Next, measure how deep your ice cube tray is and then follow the directions on the resin to add the catalyst.

3. Pour the mold about half way with resin and then place the insect inside the mold.

4. Wait for the insect to set in the polyester casting resin. You should place a paper towel or piece of aluminum foil over the tray and wait five minutes. After five minutes have passed, add the remaining resin to the tray.

5. Place your mold in a safe place where it can dry and cover it with a paper towel, cardboard, or aluminum foil.

6. Once the polyester casting resin is dry, you can carefully remove your molds and display them. The resin should be cured and solid in about 24 hours.

It is important that you purchase polyester casting resin from a reputable supplier. Dalchem is a specialist in all types of resins and can help you choose the best one for your upcoming project.
